How long should a gate opener battery last?
Sealed lead-acid gate batteries last 2–4 years with proper solar. Poor solar sizing or chronic deep discharges cut that in half.
How can I test the battery myself?
A digital multimeter reading below 12.4V rested (no load, an hour or more off charge) means the battery is at or below roughly 75% state of charge. Below 12.0V rested, plan on replacement. Under a gate cycle it should not sag below about 11.5V.
