Compact Tractor Loader Lift Calculator
Estimate how much your compact tractor loader can safely lift based on rated capacity and attachment weight.
Common questions
- How much weight can a compact tractor loader lift?
- Sub-compact loaders typically lift 500–800 lb at the pivot pins. Compact 25–45 HP tractors lift 1,000–1,800 lb. Full-frame skid-friendly compacts can exceed 2,000 lb.
- Why is the lift number at the pivot pins higher than at 500 mm forward?
- Leverage. As the load moves away from the pivots the effective lifting capacity drops — often by 30–40%. Always plan around the 500 mm (or full-height) number, not the pivot-pin spec.
- Do I need ballast to reach the rated loader capacity?
- Yes. Manufacturer loader ratings assume proper rear ballast and correct tire fill. Without ballast, real-world lift is lower and the rear wheels can lift off.
- Can I lift a full pallet of pellets or feed?
- A 2,000 lb pallet exceeds most compact tractor loaders when you factor in the pallet forks and the reach. Verify with your rated capacity at maximum reach.
- What is the difference between breakout force and lift capacity?
- Breakout is peak cylinder force at ground level. Lift capacity is what you can actually raise to full height. Breakout is usually 30–50% higher than sustained lift.
